A Change of Presentation
The year is 2021. COVID has wreaked havoc on the world and everyone is hanging in by a thread. The line on which humour carries us forward through all the various trials and errors we go through is a fine one. I know I personally have dramatically increased my meme-game on Instagram. Purely because the need for light heartedness is a nice reprieve from the sobering reality of the world right now. I always think, “everyone *can* be sad and disgruntled if they wanted to be”. It’s a choice really. We choose what environment we build for ourselves. Personally, I’ve been through enough life to know that nobody ever has their ducks in a row. We have a duck or two at times walking in the right direction, but it’s never the whole pack. So we take the wins we get, we look for the lost ducks and try bring them back into the line. There are wins and losses. But we carry on.
All the talk of ducks and humour makes it seem like there should be a punchline somewhere in all that. I’m afraid you’re not going to find that here. What I do have right now is your attention for a short period of time. If you’ve followed any of my career, you know blogging is not my forte. I have the best intentions, but I fail to prioritise the time for it as there are always so many other pressing matters that require attention. That said, I also did manage to lose all my previous blog posts from the old website when my WordPress database went bazinga and I scrambled to get a new website up again.
The biggest change with the new website was my desire to show less work, but make it more impactful. So for the first time, I’ve moved away from ‘single images’ and into ‘projects’. Ultimately this shows the range of how a shoot goes, from the hero kv to the extra details and secondaries. I’ve always wanted to do something like this and the most recent website crash was a great chance to literally start fresh. I started looking at projects again that I wanted to show. I even re-edited a couple shots with a more refined hand. I’m slowly building it up again adding projects as they feel right. I’m not just adding images for the sake of adding images. That is a young mans game. I have such an incredible array of projects from every corner of this earth, I really can start getting more selective.
With 9 months of 2021 left, I have no idea what is in store. Zero. All I can do is keep pushing forward, keep pushing for projects to go the full mile. The most incredible thing about this career I have been so incredibly blessed to have, is that whenever I have “no idea” what’s in store for the future, it always surprises me. The untold potential is the biggest drug.
So thank you for sticking it out with me, thank you for your support. Whether you’re working with me now or it’s the referrals to Art Directors, Producers, it all matters. At the end of the day, we’re all just trying to do our best and doing our best is what we do. Your support keeps food on families tables. It keeps essential staff employed. So going into another year, I do so with a grateful heart for what I have and what’s to come.
